Daniel Ouimet is French and Anishnabe from the Laurentians in Québec. He is the owner and craftsman of Chantecler Artisan , specializing in recreating vintage pieces, producing unique organic furniture and giving new life to live edge. Living on the west coast for 32 years. Daniel acknowledges the territories of the Esquimalt; Lkwungen; Malahat; Pacheedaht; Pauquachin (W̱SÁNEĆ); Scia’new; Tsartlip (W̱SÁNEĆ); Tsawout (W̱SÁNEĆ); Tseycum (W̱SÁNEĆ); and T’Sou-ke Nations. As a guest on this territory, he has immense gratitude for the welcome and graciousness that allows his good work to flow.

Daniel carries many gifts from his parents and lineage, all infused with imagination, innovation and creativity. His work has become a combination of two strong cultures connecting. On his mothers’ side he is blessed with an artist’s soul. Artistic intuition is one of the greatest gifts his mother passed on to him. She, an Anishnabe artist, who wrote poetry, painted, and drew on any available surface. On his fathers’ side he is a 3rd generation carpenter/craftsman specializing in furniture design and restoration. Daniel spent hours with his father and grandfather, being carefully mentored into the nuances of craftsmanship.

Todays art of craftsmanship and artistry needs an earth-friendly infusion that recognizes the land that nurtures us, and our responsibility as stewards on this earth. Daniel works respectfully and carefully with the materials he crafts and brings together to reimagine beauty that feeds out souls.
